Stress Management

I remember the day when we had our first class in S.C.M.S. and Mr. Sudheer Sudhakaran came to our class. The very first thing he asked us was the meaning of the word ‘Buckle’. To this he said that you can look to this word in two different ways. Either you can buckle (collapse) under pressure or you can buckle (fasten) your belt. Everyone in this world find it really difficult to perform under pressure or perform under stressed conditions. But whoever is able to manage this stress and perform, can only survive in this competitive world and come out as a real winner. Stress management is all about taking charge of your thoughts, emotions, schedule and the way you deal with problems. So here are some ways for stress management-

· Most of us are worried about the work deadlines but it’s actually the procrastination rather than actual work demands that leads to deadline stress. So we should learn ways to manage our time, make a schedule for our work and do those things first which are most important to us.

· We should adopt a positive approach in the way we look at things. Even in the most difficult situations a positive approach reduces the stress substantially. Moreover we should spend time with positive people as they buffer us from the negative effects of stress.

· As the saying goes “a sound mind rests in a sound body”. So for our mind to be fresh, relaxation and a good sleep is indispensible.

· Meditation and yoga can also prove to be very effective means of stress management.

Stress is there in everyone’s life but success comes to those who learn to manage stress.
