KYOTO PROTOCOL

  • INITIATED ON 11th DECEMBER, 1997, IN KYOTO, JAPAN
  • CAME INTO FORCE ON 16th FEBRUARY, 2005

This itself shows the promoting loophole of this protocol. This is result of the dominance of the developed countries in the world, especially at that time USA and RUSSIA. The then presisdent of America Bill Clinton and Bush did'nt agree to sign for this treaty as this commtiment resembled them that they have to do on the par of their economy. But they forgot to know the silent death which the emissions are causing.
This protocol didnt succeed because of the following reasons:

1. not having the USA ratifying the Kyoto protocol is the main problem as it contributes mostly to the global warming.

2. A number of countries have not so far met the Kyoto protocol emission targets.

3. Even if it did current projections call for much more reduction in the emissions.

4. the UN has now predicted a rise of 10% in green house emissions since 1990 which is major threat.

But for the question 'is there any hope that kyoto protocol can do somthing about global warming?' the only answer is

no amount of recycling, or technological wizardry alone can deliver a sustainable world. Getting on with each other can serve the purpose. Living well within the inevtable imits, dependancy and fragility that are part of life, provides us a sustainable life.

Before you go on just pause for a moment........... Barack Obama has said his administration will spend $150 billion on development of renewable energy and technology.

But here we shouldnt forget that USA is the last to hold out on signing the treaty. And even we shouldnt forget the fuss it made in this recent Kyoto protocol summit in 2009 so give ur opinion on this.........
