Nokia collect phones for recycling
Nokia India has taken up the baton and launched an initiative to drive awareness of recycling old handsets across the country. 1300 Nokia care centres and priority dealers are being equipped with recycling bins to take back old devices, regardless of who made them. When the recycle survey was done, India came bottom of the list with poor awareness amongst users that devices could be recycled. Nokia India will be planting a tree for every device recycled. Besides this they are also giving gifts to encourage consumers to get involved.
All of the materials in your mobile phone can be recovered and used to generate energy or new products. The phone is made of 45% plastic, 20% copper, 10% ceramic, 5% non-metals and 20% other metals like aluminum and gold.
We usually have the habit of hoarding old electronic goods in the cupboards. We have to wait and see to what extent this move from Nokia is effective in changing the mindset of the people.
